Monday, November 11 th

 

Circle Time: Calendar, Weather, and Star of the Week

Letter: Read and sing our letter Ii alphabet poster poem and begin creating a letter Ii word list.  

Bible: This week we are learning about Jesus and his disciples. What is a disciple?  Read, Jesus and the Twelve Dudes who Did .  The disciples were Jesus’ helpers and his friends.  Sing “A friend loves at all times.”   

Theme: What is transportation?  Talk about 3 different types of transportation (land, air, and water), and sort some vehicles into the different categories. Read,    A Dragon in a Wagon:  A Book About Ways to Travel by Jane Belk Moncure.  What were all the different ways they traveled in the story? Sing “Little Red Wagon”

Math:   Transportation manipulatives – sorting with sorting trays and balancing scales;

Science:   Magnet exploration

Art/Fine Motor:   little red wagons

Language/Literacy:   Airplanes and Flying Machines by Gallimard Jeunesse

Large Motor:  “ Helicopter, Helicopter, turn around…”

Extra Activities:   Practice Thanksgiving Feast Songs

 

Tuesday, November 12 th

 

Circle Time: Calendar, Weather, and Star of the Week

Letter:  Review the letter Ii and read, My Ii Book .  Add words to our letter Ii word list;

Bible: Read, “Doing God’s Work” from the Early Readers Bible .  Talk about when Matthew became a disciple.   

Theme: This week we are learning about all different types of transportation.  What are the 3 main types of transportation?  That’s right!  Land, Air, and Water.  What are some types of air transportation? What about land?  Water?  Today we are going to talk about water transportation!  Read, The Boats on the River by Marjorie Flack;

Math:   I is for icecream- Color patterns with scoops of ice-cream

 

Science:   Boats in the water table

Art/Fine Motor: : I is for Iguana.  

Language/Literacy:   Hercules the Harbor Tug by Michael O’Hearn and read, Itchy, Itchy Chicken Pox by Grace Maccarone.

Large Motor:   Do the itchy poison ivy dance by Jim Gill.

Extra Activities:   Practice Thanksgiving Feast Songs

 

Wednesday, November 13 th

 

Circle Time: Calendar, Weather, and Star of the Week

Letter:  Review the letter Ii  sound and have show and tell for those who will not be here tomorrow. Read Inch by Inch by Leo Lionni.  Take turns measuring how many inches tall we all are.

Bible:  This week we have been talking about Jesus and his disciples.  What is a disciple?  We can be Jesus’ helpers just like his disciples were.  Today, I’m going to read a story about a man that God wanted to be his  helper, but he didn’t listen.  Read, Jonah and the Whale Retold by Kathryn Smith.  How was Jonah a helper to God at the end of the story? Sing “God helps me do good things”.

Theme: Who can tell me the three different types of transportation we have been talking about this week?  Review the different types of transportation.  Today, I’m going to read a really silly story.  When we want to be our own transportation, we use our feet!  How about using your hands?!?! Read, Silly Sally .  

Math:   Counting Inches

Science:   Goofy’s Gas Station Computer Game – color mixing

Art/Fine Motor:   Journal entry-   If I coud go anywhere in the world, I would go to…

Language/Literacy:   Little Miss Spider’s New Car ; Five Little Monkeys Wash the Car ;

Large Motor:   Jumping Bean Alphabet Game & Red Light, Green Light.

Thursday, November 14 th

 

Circle Time: Calendar, Weather, and Star of the Week

Letter:  Show and Tell for the letter Ii

Bible: Review what it means to be a disciple; Sing “God made us to do good.”  Read “Friends help a lame man” using our Bible curriculum picture stories;

Theme: Review our types of transportation.  Play a transportation memory game (see Math)

Math:   Set out different types of transportation.  Take one away, and see if children can help figure out which one is missing.  

Science:   Hot Air Balloon blow-ups with vinegar and baking soda

Art/Fine Motor:   Make some “wheelie” good paintings!  How does your car drive? Dip the car wheels in some paint and watch the trail form.

Language/Literacy:   Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae & David Wojtowycz

Large Motor:   Jungle Animals – Animal Action and other fun songs;
