Theme: Thanksgiving

Bible: God made me so that I can do good things;

Letter: Alphabet Review - SHOW AND TELL IS ANY LETTER A-J!

 

Assessment Benchmarks:

Language Arts:  Communicate information with others; Relates prior knowledge to new information;

Math:  Find and name locations with simple words, such as “near”.

Science:  Use common weather-related vocabulary;

Social Science: Understand that each of us belongs to a family and recognize that families vary;

Physical Development and Health: Follow rules and procedures when participating in group physical activities;

Fine Arts: Participate in music activities;

 

Monday, November 25 th

Circle Time: Calendar, Weather, and Star of the Week

Letter:  Alphabet Review: Review letters we have learned about and the sounds they make.  Vote to see which alphabet review poems we will read;

Bible:   Introduce our Bible verse about how God made us to do good things.  What are some good things that we can do?  Make a class list.  Let’s pray to God and ask him to help us to do all of these good things.  

Theme: What special holiday is coming this week?  Last week we talked  a lot about the Native Americans and the pilgrims who celebrated the first Thanksgiving.  This week, we are going to talk about some other fun things we do at Thanksgiving.  We didn’t have turkey at our Thanksgiving Feast this year, but usually at Thanksgiving we eat Turkeys!!  Sing silly turkey songs.  Read, A Turkey For Thanksgiving by Eve Bunting.  Go on a turkey hunt.  (see large motor)

Math:  Let children go on a turkey feather hunt.  Then let them help put the feathers in order with Feather Counting – learn our counting by 10’s song to count to 100.  Let children help put the feathers on the turkey by singing our song and counting to 100 by 10’s.    

Science:   Magnets

Art/Fine Motor:  Turkey Hand Prints- This little turkey just wanted to say, “Have a very Happy Thanksgiving Day!”

Language/Literacy:  Children’s Choice – poster poems from our alphabet flip chart (A-I)

Large Motor:   Turkey Hide and Seek – Let each child take a turn being the turkey who is hiding.  Then let another child go on a turkey hunt to find them and bring them back to our Thanksgiving feast.  

 

Tuesday, November 26 th

Circle Time: Calendar, Weather, and Star of the Week

Letter:   Alphabet Review: Review letters we have learned about and the sounds they make.  Let children vote to see which alphabet review poem we can read!

Bible: God made us so that we can be thankful, and that we can do good things!  Sing our song, “God helps me do good things” from our Bible curriculum cd.  Review all the things that we have to be thankful for;

Theme: Read, Turkey Trouble (book on cd).  Sing “Strut Mr. Turkey”;

Math:   Cornucopia Counting

Science:   Corn in the sensory table

Art/Fine Motor: Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie

Language/Literacy:   Children’s Choice – poster poems from our alphabet flip chart

Large Motor:   Turkey trot races

 

Wednesday, November 27 th  

Circle Time: Calendar, Weather, and Star of the Week

Letter:   Alphabet Review: Review letters we have learned about and the sounds they make.  Let children vote to see which alphabet review poem we can read! Have show and tell for any letter A-J;

Bible:   This week we have been learning that God helps us do good things.  I am going to read a book and when I get to the end I want you to tell me, what good things did the friends do in the story.  Read, Clifford’s Puppy Days Thanksgiving Feast by Quinlan B. Lee.

Theme:  Read, Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving by Dav Pilkey and Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks by Margaret Sutherland.  

Math:   Turkey Feather Patterns

Science:   Color Paddles

Art/Fine Motor:   

Language/Literacy:   Children’s Choice – poster poems from our alphabet flip chart

Large Motor:   “Keep on singing and dancing”
